Part of the project for the new feature film that José Luis Torres Leiva is currently preparing. The short film describes the creative process and the images that come to a writer as she reflects on the figure of lighthouses as insular guides and as a source of existential support and anchorage.

George Pal’s stop motion Puppetoons were peopled with all types of characters. Two of his most popular were a pair of lovestruck kids named Punchy and Judy. Here, down-on-his-luck Punchy obtains a magical straw hat from a plucky talking horse and transforms himself into Aladdin and, with the official permission of DC Comics, Superman. Hoping to impress Judy, Punchy’s delusions of grandeur only land him in jail. The talking horse is a witness at Punchy’s trial and cajoles the judge, arresting Officer Moriarty and members of the jury to test the hat, causing their secret selves to emerge inbound, a hilarious spectacle as their unfettered dreams and desire hold sway.

"A Belly full of Dreams" is about Ramu, a boy of 9 had a simple dream of going to school. As with everything in his life, he invested the dream in the belly of the puppet Narrator Know-it-all. Know-it-all, knowing it all, realized that the dream would lie wasted if he didn't talk about it and so began the fable of Ramu - a rag picker who carries the burden of supporting a lazy father, a sickly mother and a life not facilitating his immediate fundamental right - EDUCATION! As the narrative alternates between the puppet world and the real world, we follow Ramu in his travails, exploring both his physical and emotional journeys as he confronts a corrupt system that is threatening to destroy the Nation. Bruised and battered he struggled, but never gave up-his will so strong that it broke the universe from its slumber. The universe conspired to help and sends forth a tooth fairy; to unleash her magic, to set right a broken System and to revive the sagging Belly of the puppet Know-it-all.

John Simm, an award-winning actor best known for his time-travelling roles in Life on Mars and Dr Who, dropped into Old Trafford recently to front the new official DVD, A Century of Dreams. Out now, the DVD celebrates the greatest goals, games and players from Old Trafford’s glorious first 100 years and features the personal recollections from Sir Alex Ferguson, Sir Bobby Charlton, Ryan Giggs and many others. Welcome back to Old Trafford, John. Please tell us about your first experience here and the impact it had on you... A friend’s dad brought me when I was 12. It was a cup game against West Ham and Steve Coppell scored. (United won 2-0; FA Cup third round, 8 January 1983). It had a huge impact on my life, just walking in and seeing the pitch for the first time. Who was your first United hero? My first hero was Coppell, not just because he scored the first goal I ever saw at Old Trafford, but because he was a right winger and that was my position when I played. He was small, fast and dynamic. I also had a soft spot for Gary Bailey. Who’s the best player you’ve seen at Old Trafford? With apologies to Ryan Giggs, it would have to be Eric Cantona, for the aura and the enigma. There was just something about his attitude, the way he used to walk out, collar up, as thousands of fans shouted his name. It’s the closest thing you can get now to seeing gladiators at the Coliseum in Roman times. Eric was extraordinary to watch, especially for me as an actor, just to study his face and think, ‘How must he feel?’ He was a really special player. He did stuff I’d never seen before. So is Ryan someone else you’ve admired?
